STPCT logoA FOURTH PRIMARY CARE CENTRE FOR SUNDERLAND - Public Consultation Events

Two primary care centres have been opened in Sunderland (Grindon Lane, November 2005 and Bunny Hill, June 2006) with the third planned to open in Washington next year. Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust is proposing to develop a fourth primary care centre marking another step to modernise and improve health facilities in Sunderland.   Three public consultations will be held on a “drop in” basis on the following dates:

We would like your views on the services you would like to see in this proposed exciting new centre. This is your opportunity to influence the development of local health services in Sunderland. Presentations will be given at Ryhope Community Centre and St. David’s Community Centre. Members of staff will be available to listen to your views and answer your questions.   You do not need to book a place – just come along.

Sunderland’s Environment Week this year is based around the theme of climate change, in keeping with the theme of this year’s World Environment Day on 5th June. To mark the occasion, the Sustainability Team has developed a programme of events for the half-term week with events taking place from 26th May. The programme below provides you with all the information for the week's free activities and information on how you can get involved.

Saturday 26th May – Sunday 3rd June Eco-trail - Try a fun trial around the Museum and Winter Gardens to discover ways you can save the planet.  Collect your FREE trial from the Museum reception.

Monday 28th May 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm Ice sculpture and sand sculpting workshops Come and watch an ice sculptor at work sculpting one of our favourite arctic mammals. You can also learn sand building techniques and enter your sand castle in a competition! Roker Harbour, Marine Walk.


Tuesday 29th May 10am – 12pm Hendon Beach Walk and Talk - Durham Heritage Coast will guide you along Hendon's coastline, demonstrating the effects climate change and a raising sea level will have on our local area.
Meet at the southern end of the promenade. Please wear sensible clothing and footwear. Meet at the southern end of Hendon Promenade.

Opportunities for Volunteering
Description: Opportunities for Volunteering (OFV) is a Department of Health scheme which will distribute £6.7 million this year to 300 local health and social care projects in England. OFV aims to enable local voluntary sector health and social care organisations in England to involve volunteers in their work. Volunteering England (VE) is one of 16 national charities that distribute OFV grants on behalf of the Department of Health. In total VE distributes approximately £1.7 million a year, of which £500,000 is in grants to new projects. Each year around 400 organisations submit preliminary OFV applications forms to VE of which only 15-18 will receive funding.

WRVS are looking for volunteers who are required to help out in the shop in the main hospital. Volunteers are needed especially on evenings and weekends and will be required to help serve the public, handle cash, make tea, coffee etc and help with all other aspects of shop work in a busy environment. Volunteers don’t need any specific skills but do need to enjoy working with the general public and have a helpful friendly manner. Can you help to keep this very popular service by lending a helping hand?
AGE CONCERN require volunteers to help with their advocacy project where volunteers will be placed within a residential home offering advocacy support to the residents on a weekly basis. This role may involve speaking on behalf of their client or accompanying the client to an appointment/review/GP or other professional setting. You may also be required to carry out a variety of other tasks such as negotiating or acting as a spokesperson. This may include writing letters, filling out forms and making telephone calls. This would suit anyone who has good communication skills and an interest in helping the elderly.
THE SUE RYDER CARE CHARITY shop in fulwell are looking for volunteer shop assistants to help sort clothing and bric-a-brac, price and hang clothes, serve the public and handle cash. If you are friendly, trustworthy, reliable and able to work as part of a team they would love to hear from you.
