Supporting the environment for a healthy Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS), in the North East region.
We are increasingly being approached by many organisations in the area looking for volunteering opportunities for their staff as part of their Employee Volunteering Schemes. Here is a list with the details for three of these organisations who are looking to donate some of their staff. This will be a great opportunity for many organisations so please take the time to look through the information and get in touch should you have any queries or interested in the opportunities. Contact Anne Jones on 0191 567 8906. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Employee Volunteering Scheme As you may be aware, the fire and rescue service is heavily involved in working in the community in addition to their primary function of preventing the loss of life and injuries from life from fire and other emergencies. Developing their capacity to engage with the community is a central theme in their existing Leadership Development Programme. They are seeking the co-operation of the voluntary sector to offer “projects” for fire and rescue service managers to broaden their experience and understanding in the communities in which they serve. All of their candidates have management experience at varying levels within the service and will be using the project to assist them in developing themselves as part of the Leadership Development Programme. The benefits achievable will be determined between the candidate and the host organisation and it is the projects that will facilitate this. The project should meet with the goals of the host organisation and those of the individual. Typically a candidate may be able to assist with any one of a range of tasks for example: Funding bids, Organising events, Development of policy, Team development, Change management. This is not an exhaustive and they would welcome suggestions from organisation should they wish to do so. Gentoo's Employee Volunteering Scheme - 'Give Hour' Volunteering employees are asked to spend one hour per month helping out in the local community. This can be during works time where the volunteer is allowed 'time-out' from their day to day duties. Hours can be accumulated so that staff can spend more time on projects they are interested in. For example, staff may want to take part in a community event that is not a regular occurrence for 3 hour. In this instance the employee will have accumulated 3 months worth of 'Give Hour'. There is no limit to the amount of time staff can volunteer for in any month but the minimum commitment over the 12 months is 12 hours. EDF Energy Employees for EDF Energy have the opportunity to take part in a one off volunteering event on the 2nd of November. There are 10 staff in total and they have requested that they are willing to help out with most activities that are based in indoors. The have a full day to give from 9.00am – 5.00pm. Please feel free to distribute to your friends, family and colleague with their permission.
