Design a flag for the region for the chance of a lifetime to go on board the grand dame of the seas - the QE2 - when she visits the region for the first time as part of her historic 40th Anniversary voyage around Britain. That's the prize on offer to the winners of our exciting flag design competition - Fly the Flag for the North East. The QE2 arrives in the Port of Tyne on Sunday September 16 and she'll be flying a flag created by a group of young people from the region. On Monday September 17 the winning designers will go on board the liner to meet the Captain, enjoy a guided tour of her public decks and enjoy refreshments during a two hour visit. They will also be presented with a souvenir flag created from their winning design. If you would like more information call us on 0191 516 6411 or visit website http://www.ebcltd.org.uk/flag.html
Fun Event at Mowbray Park’ happening on Tuesday June 12th, 11am to 3pm. This is part of the events for Carers Week. NORTH EAST REGION COMMUNITY ALLIANCE
This week has been national volunteers week, volunteers in the city were rewarded yesterday at an event to celebrate the hard work that volunteers do in our city. They had an opportunity to meet other volunteers, get some pampering and have a relaxing day with a barbeque for lunch. This was organised by the Volunteering forum which the South Forum is a member. The next bike ride is already planned and will take place on Sunday June 17th. The first meeting place is the car park at Silksworth Ski slope for 9.25am (the Echo made a mis-print stating 9.45am) then with the plan to cycle as a group via NCN1 to the main meeting point at Roker Marina Activity Centre at 10am. If you would let either me (saiadave@yahoo.co.uk) or Clive (clive.greenwood@sunderland.gov.uk) know if you plan to join us – then we will have an idea of the numbers and we will know to expect you. The ride is planned to leave the Roker Marina, cycling along one bank of the River Wear through to Cox Green. Across the Cox Green Bridge and then back to the Roker Marina Centre via the other bank of the River Wear. Thus using the C2C as one leg of the ride. Then we have a cycle forum / meeting planned for June 26th at 6pm at the Jubilee Centre. This is to discuss the possibility of forming a Sunderland Wide Family Bike Club / Group.
Farringdon Community Sports College presents 'The Wizard of Oz' (MGM) L. Frank Baum adapted by Harold Arden & E. Y. Harburg. Time: Prompt 7pm start showing dates: Tuesday 3rd - Thursday 5th July 2007 Tickets available from Student services. adults £3 and Children £2.50 By arrangement with The Musicscope and stage Musicals Ltd of New York.
The event this week was very successful and 25 groups attended the free training. The training looked at project planning/fund raising, Myth Busting, confidence building/assertiveness and How to give an effective presentation using powerpoint. The evaluation was very positive and people would like more events coordinated in the South. The South Forum will look to planning and coordinating more detailed course's on powerpoint and project planning/fund raising for members in the future. Watch this space for further details of training in the South .

Project Launch Event - Sunderland’s UK Online Social Impact Demonstrator (SID) project WHERE’S MY NEAREST DOCTOR’S SURGERY? CAN I CLAIM DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE? HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT MY COUNCIL TAX? WHERE CAN I BOOK MY DRIVING TEST? HOW DO I NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR AN HONOUR?
THE ANSWERS TO THESE, AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER QUESTIONS, CAN BE FOUND QUICKLY AND EASILY THROUGH ONLINE PUBLIC INFORMATION WEBSITES Since January the six Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) partners who developed and are delivering Sunderland’s UK Online Social Impact Demonstrator (SID) project have been working to increase their own awareness of online public information, and to bring the benefits to their users.
Phase 2 of this groundbreaking project, due to begin in July, gives your organisation the chance to get involved. Not only will you develop the skills within your organisation, and increase the benefits for your users, staff and volunteers, but we’ll pay you to do it.
We are looking for at least another 15 VCS partners to join the, so if you work for, or are involved with a voluntary or community organisation, then come along to our event and find out more. We’re holding a half day event, on June 21st at the Bangladeshi Community Centre in Hendon.
Come along and see what we’ve done so far, take part in a fun quiz to see how much you know about online public information, talk to the projects who have been involved to date, and see how your organisation and users can benefit. Then enjoy a buffet and meet lots of interesting people.
What do you need to do? - If you’d like to come along please book a place so we can arrange refreshments etc., you can contact us at: 0191 565 4245, or by email h2kteams@btconnect.com giving your name, the name of your group or organisation, and contact details. The Sunderland SID is linked to UK Online Centres and part funded through the Sunderland Digital Challenge Initiative. The partnership consists of Hendon 2000 Ltd, Age Concern Sunderland, Wearmouth Community Development Trust, BRIDGE, Ryhope Community Association and Pallion Action Group. Please feel free to distribute to your friends, family and colleague with their permission.
