Please Nominate Councillors for a Pride of Place award
Now Age UK is sponsoring the Age UK Pride of Place award, as part of the 2012 LGiU and CCLA C’llr Achievement awards. The award will be given to a councillor who has taken a lead in championing the voices of older people in their patch and made a real commitment to improving neighbourhoods for them. This might be by getting a new bus stop, providing seating, or finding funds for a small regeneration project. We want every older person to live in a neighbourhood where they feel safe and confident to go out. And we think that councillors who do their best to bring such neighbourhoods about deserve our praise.
Nominations close at the end of December so we have less than two months to get some great nominations.
Left to Our Own Devices Photo Competition Left to Our Own Devices is an national photography competition launched by KT-EQUAL and run in partnership with Age UK. It sets out to challenge our preconceptions about how older people interact with technology now and in the future. Entries will be judged not only on their photographic merit but also on how they address issues related to the central theme of older people's interactions with technology - perhaps by challenging stereotypes, defying expectations or delivering a powerful message. The most successful images will be selected from across four categories: Gadgets and Gizmos; In the Home; Out and About and an open category. One image in each category will receive a cash prize of £250. Entries need to be submitted by 31st January. Visit the website for more information. http://lefttoourowndevices.org.uk/?itc=0&ito=&itv=1055965945180 The next West Area VCS Network will be held on Tuesday 22nd November 2011 at 1.30pm at Pallion Action Group, 5 Eastmoor Road, Pallion, SR4 6QW (nearest metro is Pallion).
