Sunderland South Forum Monthly Meeting

Guest speakers at the forthcoming meeting are:

 

  • Christine Charlton – COMPACT Engagement Officer - Updating the membership on the latest developments on Sunderland COMPACT.
  • Lewis Atkinson - Lewis works as Assistant Head of Drug and Alcohol Services for NHS South of Tyne & Wear. In the past, as well as a varied career in NHS North East, he has worked in the Treasury on public health policy and spending. Outside work, he campaigns to reduce health inequalities and for greater public involvement in health. He will speak in a personal capacity on how community groups in the South Area can help tackle the causes of poor health.

What’s on in the South Area

 

  • St Wilfrid’s Annual Christmas Fayre is on 8th November 2008 at Doxford Community Centre between 2.00pm – 4.00pm.

 

  • A Halloween Party has been organised at Doxford Park Community Association on 31st October 2008 between 6.30pm – 9.00pm.

 

  • Alan Cook – Portland College has up to 5 Colour TV’s which are obsolete and go to community groups etc if anybody is interested please contact Anthony@southforum.org.uk

 

  • Middle Herrington Scarecrow Competition is on 25th October 2008 for children in the area.

 

  • Community Support Officers have open surgeries in the following venues:
  • Wed 12/1108 – Doxford Park Community Centre – 10.00am
  • Thurs 13/11/08 – St David’s Community Church – 10.00am

          (Informal discussions are in the strictest confidence)


Following on from the Public Consultation Events which took place throughout Sunderland during the months May to August 2008 to consider the proposals for the new GP led health centre and three new GP practices.

 

Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust would like to invite you to a public event they will be holding to feed back the outcome of the Consultation.

 

The events will take place on:

 

Wednesday 29th October from 2.30pm – 5.30pm at Bethany Christian Centre, Hetton Road, Houghton le Spring, DH5 8PF

 

Friday 14th November from 1.30pm – 3.00pm at the Stadium of Light, Millennium Way, Sunderland, SR5 1SU (Refreshments will be available from 12.30pm)

 

This will also be an opportunity to discuss the new Primary Care Centre planned for Sunderland.

Grassroots Grants

 

Grants of between £250 - £5000 are available to small community and voluntary organisations to support a wide range of activities which will build stronger communities and develop social capital including:

The purchase of equipment

Local community events and activities

Small scale training and staffing costs

Rent costs

 

The Grassroots Grant programme will run from 2008 to 2011. It is made up of two elements; an £80 million national grants programme and a £50 million endowments programme to help local funders build funds to provide a continuous source of small grant funding.
