Sunderland South Forum Monthly Meeting
Is to be held
Wednesday 24th June 2009

1.00pm start (12.30pm Buffet)
We are really looking forward to the forthcoming June meeting we will have the anti-social behaviour unit talking about how we can tackle anti-social behaviour on a local level. It’s a real opportunity for you to come along and put your views across to decision makers.
We also have Helen Nugent from the Children’s Centres, Simon Milburn from Alcohol Education Service and Cheryl Warcup from Northumbria Police – Farringdon Police Station updating members on local issues and answering any questions members may have.

Why should you join the South Forum?
We can offer you the opportunity to share good practice and experience. We can also offer you the opportunity to build positive relationships with other South Forum members. There is a good mix of attendees from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors as well as individuals. This provides an effective forum for networking and information sharing. South Forum members are able to promote their group or service and meet informally with others.
Everyone is welcome to attend our monthly meetings so please come along. |
South Forum Summer Event 2009
To date we have 35 groups and services taking part and loads of great family activities arranged for the day.
Our event last year was a great success and it's not too late to reserve a stall or provide an activity on the day. Space is now limited but we will fit everyone in.

Show Racism the Red Card
Will be hosting the STAR Festival
A free family Festival and Fun Day. Lots of activities including Youth Football Tournament, Live Music, Drumming Workshops, Arts and Crafts, Fashion Show and International Food Stalls.

NHS South of Tyne & Wear TPCT are intending to hold a briefing session for approximately 30-40 key voluntary and community sector organisations in Sunderland on the morning of 24th June 2009 at Sunderland CVS.
If you are an organisation with a high footfall within your establishment or could feedback information regarding swine flu to your members, we would be very much appreciated if you could make every effort to attend. The session should last no more than an hour.

Also at the Jubilee Centre is a new CHIP machine (Community Health Information Point), this has been funded by the digital challenge team and are available at multiple sites across the city.
Health Information kiosks will provide you with a full health check including BMI (Body Mass Index), Body Fat Content, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, weight and specific health information.

This service will be subject to a small fee although early registers will be able to take advantage of the service free of charge. |

Free Training for Youth Practitioners

Times are tough at the moment and no more so than for young people not in education, employment or training (NEET). Now more than ever they need to become more financially responsible. Young People And Money is a free one-day training course designed for practitioners to help embed financial learning into programmes targeted at NEET young people.
Working in partnership with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) Fairbridge Training has developed Young People And Money a FREE one-day training session. This informative course delivers financial capability awareness so that you can help encourage young people to think about their own financial needs.
Fairbridge has over 25 years experience of working with 13-25 year olds who are not in education, employment or training. Fairbridge engages these hard to reach young people and gives them the skills they need to change their lives. Fairbridge Training can share this knowledge and experience with other organisations working with young people by offering courses that can help make a real difference to the young people you work with.
Delivered across the north of England by experienced Fairbridge trainers Young People & Money explores subjects such as:
Understanding of the psychology of young people & money
Ideas on helping young people make the most of their money
Tools to enable young people to make informed choices
Skills to engage young people in financial matters
Help for young people to manage debt
Each delegate will receive an informative toolkit giving you lots of helpful activities to do with young people as well as helpful information on where to turn to for advice.
Our training courses are fun, informative, informal and experiential allowing you to make the most of the day. Each course runs from 9.30am-4.30pm with lunch and refreshments provided. Promoting choice, control and independent living
DAS offers advice and information on a broad range of subjects - from welfare benefits to housing, from employment to health. Whatever the nature of your enquiry, we aim to provide appropriate, professional advice.
The advice and information service is free, confidential and independent. Advice and information can be given on any issue. Where appropriate, we can refer to signpost clients to specialist workers within other advice organisations.
We hope by providing advice and information we can empower our clients to resolve their issues themselves with tailored advice, or with support from the advice worker. If clients would like the advice worker to act on their behalf, this can be arranged wit the clients consent as we want every client to feel secure and confident that they will be given an appropriate level of support and high quality advice to be able to resolve their problems.

for the work they have done providing the local community with courses and family learning.
the award was presented by the local lad, british light heavy weight, olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries.

The Policing Pledge (Delivering our service to you)
Northumbria Police will:
- Treat you fairly, with respect and provide accessible services when you need them.
- Tell you who your Neighbourhood Policing Team are and how you can contact them.
- Ensure police patrols in your area are where and when you say you need them most.
- Respond promptly to all messages to your Neighbourhood Policing Team.
- Attend emergencies immediately, giving estimated arrival time.
- Answer non-emergency calls promptly and provide a policing response to meet your needs.
- Arrange regular public meetings in your area with your Neighbourhood Policing Team to discuss those things important to you.
- Provide monthly updates on what we are doing with our partners to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Agree with victims how often we will update you about your case and for how long.
- Respond promptly to any report of poor service and agree how it will be handled.
