Sunderland South Forum Charity Christmas Ceilidh

Sunderland South Forum Monthly Meeting

Guest speakers at the forthcoming meeting are:

 

Sarah Leach – Tyne & Wear Museums (Resource Centre) - The Regional Resource Centre is run in partnership between Beamish Museum and Tyne and Wear Museums.  It provides storage for museum collections of regional, national and international importance, and also free access to these collections for community groups.  The Collections Access Team at the Centre work with many community groups on and off site on outreach projects inspired in some way by the museum collections.  Sarah will be explaining how you can work with the Centre, from a one off "behind the scenes" tour to longer creative projects.

 

Mel Williams – Redcross - Redcross will be undertaking a project on refugees and asylum seekers within schools in Sunderland - a pilot went down well at Highfield Primary.  We aim to work with partners and can also work in youth and community settings, maybe some members would like to work with Redcross at some point in the future.

 

Steve Burnikell – Piglet – Local Stationers - Information on what services Piglet can offer to local businesses.

What’s on in the South Area

 

Sunderland NHS Teaching Primary Care Trust – Feedback consultation regarding the proposals for new GP led health centre and three new GP practices. Friday 14th November from 1.30pm – 3.00pm at the Stadium of Light, Millennium Way, Sunderland, SR5 1SU. (Refreshments will be available from 12.30pm)

 

The Bridge Project Christmas Fayre – Saturday 15th November 2008 - Where you’ll find a fabulous selection of Christmas gifts & ideas including: Toys, Jewellery, Handmade Organic Products, Gorgeous Bags, Pashminas and Silk Scarves, Christmas Table Decorations and Cards, Chinese Calligraphy, Fun Fab Stocking Fillers from only £1 and lots more goodies. Refreshments and scrumptious homemade cakes are also available. Admission 50p including a free raffle ticket to the prize draw.

 

St Chad’s Ward Councillors, Michael Dixon, Robert Oliver and Alan Wright, are to hold their next ward surgery on Saturday 6th December from 10.30am – 11.30am at Middle Herrington Methodist Church, Crow Lane, Sunderland.

Sunderland CVS are holding a drop in session for voluntary and community groups. Why not come along and see what we can offer. We can provide your voluntary or community group the following:

  • Advice on possible funders and how to apply for funds
  • Assistance in developing a fundraising strategy

  • Support with funding application forms
  • Help with sustainability – finding alternative ways of raising income and minimizing expenditure
  • Advice and information on developing policies
  • Advice on setting up a new group

South Forum Fantasy Football League

October Manager of the Month

The award goes to Jemma Cole, Project Manager of the Farringdon Jubilee Centre.

The Jubilee Centre is a community facility that is the focus for key advice and learning services in the South Sunderland area. A one-stop information centre, established in September 2002 in response to the lack of community facilities available in the South area. The multi-purpose nature of the Jubilee Centre is designed to provide fun learning opportunities for local families and individuals of all ages. Our informal, relaxed atmosphere, welcomes you through the door to access advice and information about local services.

The range of activities on offer includes:-

Adult Learning, Family Learning, Career Advice, Job Search Support, Children’s Activities, Parent and Toddlers Groups, Youth Activities, Cyber Café, WIFI access.

The Jubilee Centre also have a community base including meeting rooms and crèche facilities to enable community group to access provision. Rooms are also available to hire for local groups.

Up for grabs this month was a USB Splitter and other goodies donated by Digital Challenge.

 

The Digital Challenge programme is setting the vision for a digitally enabled Sunderland. It will lay the foundations for this transformation by leading the way to a 21st century Sunderland. Services will be delivered where, when and how they are needed and wanted - this could be in the home, a local community point, face to face, or remotely using technology as the enabler.
