Maureen Bell & Yusuf Meah Mohammed – Delivering Race Equality (DRE)
What is the Delivering Race Equality programme? Delivering Race Equality (DRE) is an action plan for achieving equality and tackling discrimination in mental health services in England for all people of black and minority ethnic (BME) status, including those of Irish or Mediterranean origin, and east European migrants.
Delivering Race Equality Team in Sunderland The Community Development Workers (CDW’s) work in partnership with communities and services to understand and improve access and capacity, leading to better health. Wendy Hadlington - Sunderland Centre for Voluntary Service South of Tyne & Wear Teaching Primary Care Trust has £50,000 to award in grants to support community and voluntary groups working at grass root level across Sunderland. Grants are decided at regular meetings and awards range from £250 to £2,500, this could to support a range of community activities that are aimed at reducing the related effects of alcohol problems. The small grant scheme will support a vast array of projects but we would like people to be innovating and deliver projects that can make a difference. The TPCT in conjunction with Sunderland CVS has recently recruited new panel members to become actively involved in local decision making. These are local people involved with the voluntary sector, who will meet to allocate the funds to areas of most need. The key to its success will be the committee's diverse representation of the communities they are active in. If you are unable to attend the meeting on the 21st January but would like to express an interest contact me via email lorna@southforum.org.uk or on 0191 522 8447. New to the South Forum Website this month is a ‘Our Monthly Meeting’ section where you can easily view the minutes of the monthly meetings, presentations from speakers and the members that attended the meeting. The meetings are listed in chronological order for ease of use.
