Public Transport Access Issues – Nexus can Help
Nexus, the Passenger Transport Executive for Tyne and Wear, has
appointed a new Community Relations Officer for the Sunderland
district. James Third has taken up the role to identify and engage
with all local stakeholders including community groups & charities,
businesses, ward councillors and public service providers. He
intends to be the point of contact for community issues arising
from changes to public transport and the Metro re-invigoration
programme, which sees £385m of funding to upgrade the
metro system, including new ticketing and gating initiatives and
refurbishment to stations and fleet.
James seeks to create and manage channels by which the
community can be included in the business planning process and
gain a realistic expectation of the services that Nexus can provide.
He is available to discuss issues with hard-to-reach groups, including ethnic minorities and
disabled passengers, facilitate greater social inclusion through public transport and identify
barriers to public transport use in these groups. Should you feel your organisation could
benefit from talking with James, please contact him on 0191 2033471/ 07909 878028 or
email: james.third@nexus.org.uk

• To Support people to help each other out and plan future events together.

• To reduce isolation.

• Or any other idea?
